So, you start with straw bales. We only have two, because we're first timers. But you can have as many as you want.
Then, you drown them with water. They need lots and lots of water. Ours are already pretty saturated, thanks in part to the rainiest April that Ohio has on record. But today I decided to give them some more water, just in case. Only to my surprise, the hose doesn't reach all the way to the bales. And here we were thinking we picked the best spot in the yard for them. So, I just had to make due with spraying from a distance.
Then, I realized that wasn't working, so I grabbed a watering can.
I'll continue adding water to the bales for about another week, or perhaps a little less. Then it will be time to add some fertilizer. I'll post an update when I do.
So, are you going to start a straw bale garden this year? Share your ideas!
So...what do you...grow? :) No I have never heard of this. I can't wait to see what happens!
ReplyDeleteThanks for your comment! We are for sure planting tomatoes and carrots, and possibly some green beans and melon if there is room! :)
